The Stop TB Partnership Working Group on New TB Vaccines (WGNV), IAVI, the Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative (TBVI), and the University of Zaragoza are pleased to announce that the 8th Global Forum on TB Vaccines will take place in Zaragoza, Spain, from 12–14 April 2027. This edition marks the return of the Global Forum to the European region—a hub for research and innovation in the field—and the first time this important convening on TB vaccine research, development, and implementation will be held in a Spanish-speaking country.

The Global Forum on TB Vaccines is convened every two to three years by the WGNV in collaboration with IAVI, TBVI, and a partner in the host country. The 8th Global Forum is expected to bring more than 400 stakeholders from over 35 countries and all sectors of tuberculosis vaccine research, development, and implementation to Zaragoza.

As a country strongly committed to Global Health and Development, including longstanding partnerships across Latin America, Spain is home to world-renowned research and healthcare institutions and biopharmaceutical companies with expertise in TB and infectious diseases, vaccinology, immunology, and respiratory medicine. Its diverse scientific community is engaged in the full spectrum of TB research, making significant contributions to basic and translational research, preclinical and clinical development, and operational and implementation research. Spain is well-positioned to expand its contributions to global health and development, and to the global goal of developing and delivering new TB vaccines to end TB.
TB remains a major global health threat. We urgently need new TB vaccines to eliminate TB and reach the 2030 end TB goals. With multiple candidates in late-stage development, new TB vaccines could be available this decade. The spirit of innovation and collaboration exemplified by Spain and the European region will be critical to ensuring new TB vaccines are developed and deployed as quickly as possible.
