Spain
The 8th Global Forum on TB Vaccines will take place in Zaragoza, Spain, marking a return to the European region—a hub for research and innovation in the field—and the first time this important convening on TB vaccine research, development, and implementation will be held in a Spanish-speaking country.
Spain has demonstrated its leadership and commitment to improving global health, with an inclusive, sustainable, and human rights-based approach and focus on strengthening international cooperation, including through its longstanding partnerships across Latin America. Moreover, Spain’s Global Health strategy for 2025-2030 emphasizes research and innovation as essential to transforming global health with a focus on equity. This strategy prioritizes sustainable technologies and equitable access to medicines and vaccines while targeting neglected and poverty-related diseases that disproportionately affect low- and middle-income countries and vulnerable populations.
Spain is home to world-renowned research and healthcare institutions and biopharmaceutical companies with expertise in TB and infectious diseases, vaccinology, immunology, and respiratory medicine. Its diverse scientific community is engaged in the full spectrum of tuberculosis research, making significant contributions to basic and translational research, preclinical and clinical development, and operational and implementation research.
Researchers in Spain are active participants in regional and global collaborative research projects and initiatives, which have been critical to advancing TB vaccine science, enabling multicenter trials, and fostering sustainable research networks.
